Under the Flor

‘Making sherry sexy again’ is a task attributed to Equipo Navasos, whose work seeking out and bottling extraordinary sherries has certainly helped to elevate sherry’s status among the uninitiated. But they are not the only ones pushing the quality and image of wines aged under a veil of yeast. A perfect way to start, or finish, a great meal.

Rivers

The rivers of Europe have long wine making traditions that stretch back centuries. These ancient highways have long been arteries for moving not only goods but ideas and methods, and this especially true of wine making. Texture, fruit and elegance combine to produce textbook wines from classic regions, worthy of their stellar reputation.

Mountains

Mountains have long been synonymous with isolation from the wider world. This isolation from modern conventions, combined with the traditions and eccentricities of these regions (and it’s winemakers) have lead to some of the most diverse, exciting and sought after wines today. We are firmly in ‘natural’ wine territory here.

Hills & Plains

There is no uniform style of wines among the difficult and changing climate conditions of the central hills and plains. The cheaper land has attracted a pioneering group of young winemakers, eagar to experiement and express the individuality of their regions and themselves. Traditional grape varieties take on new identities, and traditional methods are repurposed to produce unique expressions of place and self.

Irish Winemakers

Ireland might not be the first country that springs to mind when we talk about wine, but a long history of Irish emigrants and their descendants have made their reputations across the new and old worlds.

Burgundy

No place is a better show case of terroir than Burgundy. Synonymous with elegance and finesse, if you’re looking for that extra special bottle, there’s nothing quite like ‘white burg’. Citrus and stone fruit, bracing minerality, buttery complexity; all are hallmarks of the region. Along with the unbiqutous Chardonnay, Aligoté is gaining in reputation once again, and in the hands of the right wine maker can make wines with just as much character and enjoyment.

Grower Champagne

Terroir focused, small production, artisanal winemaking. Grower Champagne is something to be celebrated, not just for celebration. Here we have a small selection of diverse bottles that show the differing terroir and approaches to wine making across the region.
